It’s true. At the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas you can hunt for diamonds. There is a small entrance fee for the park but all diamonds are finders keepers. Below are some examples of the diamonds found at the park. http://www.craterofdiamondsstatepark.com

Are there any places in California that diamonds are to be found?

Not that I’m aware of. My understanding is that there are currently three known areas in the US where diamond deposits can be found: Arkansas, Colorado, and Wyoming. It was determined the mine in Arkansas was not commercially viable and eventually became the state park I mentioned in my post. The mine in Colorado is not currently in use do to legal issues. And my understanding is that there are no mining operations at any of the Wyoming deposits at this time. Both the Colorado and Wyoming deposits appear to be commercially viable, so it’s not likely we’ll get another state park anytime soon.
