About

This blog is about the people and things that inspire me, in life as well as in art, and some of the end results of these inspirations.

Artists Biography:

As a little girl, Alison hunted for agates with her mother along the shores of the Puget Sound and where rivers meet the Pacific Coast. She took her found treasures home to tumble into beautiful polished gems.  While her mother scouted for agates, Alison insisted on bringing home jasper and chalcedony as well.  Her eye for spotting the beauty in these hidden treasures sparked her lifelong love of gems and gemology.

In 1996 Alison enrolled in jewelry design and metalsmithing classes and was immediately hooked. Her dream to one day have a jewelry line of her own was born.  In 2007 she launched her own line, Alison Trowbridge Designs. Working in sterling silver and semi-precious stones she designed elegant pieces with a bit of an edge, a nod to her West Coast roots. Her work is influenced by architectural elements (from ancient to modern), her extensive travels, starry summer nights, and the wondrous array of gems the world has to offer.

In 2010, Alison’s mother lost her 22 year battle with cancer. As part of her healing process, and to honor the path she began with her mother as a girl, Alison went back to school to become a Graduate Gemologist.  After graduating from Gemological Institute of America’s London campus in August of 2013, she returned to the US inspired to create innovative designs and truly memorable jewelry.
